Quick answers to quick questions. OR....
Whether you’re a seasoned paddler, or getting your feet wet for the first time. Let’s make sure you’re in the know, before you’re on the water.
Do I need any kayaking experience?
No! Kayaking at a beginner level is very easy to pick up. Pay careful attention during our onsite safety and paddling demonstration. Then learn as you go on the water!
Will there be a guide?
Our adventures are self guided so you will not have a guide accompanying you. A route map and clear instruction is provided before launching. And our destinations are clearly marked.
Do you have double kayaks for children?
We don’t currently have any double kayaks for rent. Children 8yrs and up are able to paddle solo, or can be seated on a lap.
What do I wear?
We’re in Australia. So as always with outdoor activities in Australia, sun smart clothing! Breathable clothing with good coverage that is okay to get wet. A hat, and plenty of sunscreen. We strongly advise only to wear sunglasses if they are secured with a strap. Closed toe water shoes are best to tackle rocky river bottoms if the need arises.
Can I bring valuables?
Dry bags are provided for your adventure. Though we find even these can be susceptible to getting a little damp at times. It’s best to limit the number of technology items you bring along. Share cameras or phones amongst the group. We suggest leaving particularly precious jewellery behind. River bottom jewellery recovery can be hopeless at best. And Golum knows losing rings can be devastating.
What to do in an emergency?
If an emergency is life threatening, call 000 immediately! In this instance, further calls can be made to your caravan park adventure provider for further support, and for help in identifying your location. We advise everyone to download the Emergency Plus app on a mobile. For quick and precise location tracking when communicating with emergency services.
For smaller emergencies like kayaks or paddles disappearing downstream. Remain calm and go with the flow. You will find them washed up on bank somewhere not far downstream. Call your adventure provider location for support with lost valuables, mission aborts, or any other non life threatening emergencies.
Where can I learn kayaking skills before my adventure?
Kayak Australia adventures are beginner friendly. So no prior learning is strictly necessary. However, Youtube is a great resource for anyone looking to learn basic to intermediate paddling and river reading skills before hitting the water.

Do I need to be able to swim?
Yes! Absolutely. All participants MUST be able to swim competently and confidently. As your adventure is self guided, you are responsible for your own safety whilst on the water. Being able to navigate the river as a swimmer after any potential capsizes, is critical.
